Dance Adaptations
Our project features adaptations of classical pieces for dance, original compositions, and arrangements of traditional melodies, showcasing our diverse musical backgrounds and love for rhythm and harmony. Over time we have expanded our repertoire in the most varied directions: bourrée d'Auvergne, slängpolska and klezmer music coexist harmoniously in our concerts.
Original Compositions
We create unique original compositions that integrate various musical styles, reflecting our passion for dance and folk music while honoring our classical roots and the beauty of polyphony.
The group's name is inspired by the character of the same name in Hermann Hesse's book, Narcissus and Goldmund: where Narcissus represents stability, reason, study, asceticism and the elevation of the spirit of classical music, while Goldmund (Boccadoro in italian) is his Dionysian counterpart open to change, life and new experiences, who decides to leave and go out into the world, to discover it through the art of encounter, a wonderful metaphor for dance and popular music.
Our Name
We all met shortly after high school while studying at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole (Florence). At the time, we still didn't know folk music...
Our roots
First formed in 2020, Boccadoro is a musical project of four young Italian musicians coming from classical music, but united by a great love for dance and folk music. The need not to separate different musical styles led us to the creation of this ensemble with the aim of integrating our previous background with balfolk: polyphony, clarity of sound and harmonic complexity on the one hand, and rhythm, freedom and danceability on the other.
